Brief Biodata of Dr. M. Veerangouda,Dean (Ag. Engg.), College of Agricultural Engineering

 

              Dr. M. Veerangouda, presently the Dean(Ag.Engg.) of the College of agricultural Engineering of UAS, Raichur, has completed his Master’s and Doctoral Degree from TNAU, Coimbatore with a specialization in the field of Farm Power and Machinery. He has put up a total of more than thirty two years of service in the college and in the field of agricultural engineering and specifically in the field of farm machinery and power engineering. During his service period he has worked under different capacities right from assistant professor, associate professor, professor, head of the department up to the dean of the college. He has put up more than ten years of service as the head of the department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering including the university level headship. He has guided more than fifteen masters and eight doctoral students under his chairmanship. He has handled more than twenty research projects which have been funded by ICAR, GoI, GoK and also Institutional. There are more than thirty five technologies developed and popularized under his leadership and collaborative projects. He has more than hundred publications which comprise of research papers and abstracts published in reputed national and international journals, research and technical bulletins, popular articles, extension literatures etc. He has attended a number of national and international conferences and presented the research findings. He has given a number of TV and radio programmes for propagating the important agricultural engineering technologies to the farming community. He has also been conferred with a number of national and international awards for the contributions in the field of farm machinery and power engineering. He is also a member of the different professional bodies like, The Institution of Engineers (India), The Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, Karnataka Agricultural Engineers Association etc.

  • Millet based bakery unit for training and preparation of bakery products – Bread, Cookies, cakes, muffins, dil pasand, puffs and rusks.
  • Production of value added products from fruits and vegetables – Jam, juice, pulp, sauce, pickles and chips.
  • Preparation of value added products from milk – Paneer, Khova and flavoured milk.
  • Cold storage for perishables – Operation and maintenance of cold storage unit.
  • Full fledged laboratory facilities for – Estimation of protein, fat, fibre and minerals. Textural and rheological properties of agricultural / food materials. Facility for modified / vacuum packaging.
  • Facilities for developing extruded products.
  • Drying and dehydration of agricultural produce – Tray dryer, solar tunnel dryer, fluidized bed dryer, radio frequency dryer, de-humidified dryer and spray dryers (lab models).
  • Super critical fluid extraction unit for extraction of bioactive compounds (lab model).

  1. Hands on training / Experiential Learning:

As per V – Dean’s Committee Syllabus, B. Tech. (Ag.Engg.)students have to undergo SRY – 403 ( 0+10 ) – The 10 weeks Experiential Learning on campus (Student READY). Presently, there is one Experiential Learning Unit in the Department of Processing and Food Engineering.

Library and Wi-Fi Facilities:

        The library is a basic need of every educational and research institute. The College of Agricultural Engineering as the constituent college of UAS, Raichur has the advantage of Central Library established in the main campus. The library has state-of-art facilities for the benefit of students and staff of the college as well. The library has sufficient seating capacity to the visiting students and staff. It is equipped with more than 80 computers (LAN connected) established in a separate computer section to access the e-resources with high speed internet facility along with printers. The library is facilitated with a strong security system and is being monitored with CCTV cameras and internet services are made available for the students and staff.

Smart Lecture Halls:

The college has four independent classrooms exclusively for conducting theory classes to the students of B.Tech. programme. All the class rooms are equipped with interactive boards with speaker facility. The teachers deliver their lectures through PPT presentation with relevant sketches / drawings / videos / animations along with black board and chalk piece. The students are also given exercises to prepare the assignments using the facility so as to get augmented with the latest technology. The major departments also have independent instructional classrooms in their workshop / laboratories with interactive board facility. The objective, materials required and procedure to be followed for respective practicals are discussed in the instruction classroom before conducting the experiment.

NSS:

In the College of Agricultural Engineering, Raichur, there are two NSS units (Unit – 1 and Unit -2) comprising of 100 students each. The following activities are carried out every year by both the NSS units:

Regular activities

Students are regularly engaged in cleaning activities of the campus with special focus on “SWACCHA BHAARATH ABHIYAAN”. Students are actively involved in awareness programmes. Every year, students are donating blood to blood bank and needy people. Students plant saplings in the campus and in and around hostels and regularly water them.

Students motivation and strengthening activities

Regular classes are conducted to impart knowledge and motivate students towards social service.

Guest lectures are arranged to motivate students and to impart awareness on various issues.

Some activities are carried out in the class to motivate students and strengthen their mental ability and to induce friendly environment among the students.

Students regularly participate in National Integration camps, adventure camps and special campaigning programmes.

Special camps

Special camps are conducted every year for a duration of one week and students are exposed to real conditions at village level and they are actively involved in camp activities.

 

 

Achievements of students:

Academics:

Many of the students of the college due to their hard work and very good coaching from the senior faculty have attempted National Examinations namely Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and ICAR Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and ASRB-NET,  and recruited as ARS Scientists some have achieved a very good success with higher ranking.

During the last five academic years the following examinations were cracked by the students of CAE, Raichur:

  • 25 students grabbed ICAR-JRF ranks
  • 15 students qualified GATE examination
  • 40 students qualified NET examination
  • 03 students qualified ARS
  • About 50 percent of the students have opted for higher education
  • 02 PhD Students got DST fellowship/scholarship
  • 03 M.Tech and 03 PhD students got UGC fellowship/scholarship
  • 01 PhD Student got ICAR-SRF fellowship/scholarship
  • 02 Tech Students got IFE fellowship/scholarship
  • 01 Student bagged FIRST prize in the MANTHAN-2014
  • 02 Students bagged FIRST and SECOND prize in the MANTHAN-2017
  • 01 Student bagged FIRST prize in the MANTHAN-2018

  • CAE, Raichur Athletic Team (M) won the overall championship (M) in the IV UAS Inter Collegiate Athletic Meet-2013 at UAS, Raichur campus
  • CAE, Raichur item won the Trophy of Table Tennis tournament -2015 at AC, Bheemarayanagudi.
  • CAE, Raichur team won the Trophy of Football UAS Inter-Collegiate tournament -2015 at UAS, Raichur.
  • CAE, Raichur Kabaddi team winners in the UAS Inter Collegiate-2015 at Raichur Campus.
  • CAE, Raichur Women Athletic team bagged the Women Championship in the VIII UAS Inter Collegiate Athletic meet - 2017 at Raichur Campus.
  • CAE, Raichur women Table Tennis team secured the Runner-up in the UAS Inter Collegiate Table Tennis women tournament-2017 at Raichur Campus.
  • CAE, Raichur men Basketball team secured the Runner-up in the UAS Inter Collegiate Basketball tournament on -2017 at Raichur Campus.
  • CAE, Raichur Men Athletic team bagged the Men Championship in VIII UAS Inter Collegiate Athletic meet-2017 at Raichur Campus.
  • CAE, Raichur secured Women individual Championship at the VIII UAS I/C Athletic meet - 2017 at AC, Raichur.
  • CAE, Raichur bagged thirteen University Blue in inter colligate sports meet conducted in 2018.
  • CAE, Raichur bagged eighteen University Blue in inter colligate sports meet conducted in 2019.
  • CAE Raichur bagged Overall Champions Men in IX Athletic Meet 2019 of  Inter-Campus Sports conducted at Agriculture College, Kalaburgi.

The College of Agricultural Engineering students bagged the following prizes in All India Agri. University Sports Meet 2018

  • 100 meters running                                          –          Gold medal

Cultural and other co-curricular activities:

  • CAE, Raichur secured Silver Medal in Cartooning in the 15th ICAR ‘AGRIUNIFEST’ at NDRI, Karnal (Haryana) for the year 2014.
  • CAE, Raichur secured Bronze Medal in Quiz in the 19th ICAR ‘AGRIUNIFEST’ at Tirupati for the year 2019.
